I woke up this morning to a few VC bloggers buzzing about the acquisition of GroupMe by Skype. AllThingsD is reporting that the price was around $85m which is a healthy number for a year old company. After scanning through the VC blogs and seeing a handful of the early investors writing about their experience with GroupMe I decided to add a “Deal of the Day” category to use periodically when a deal happens that has some good storytelling around it.

David Tisch (TechStars NY Managing Director) has a post up titled Invest in People – #GroupMe and Charlie O’Donnell (First Round Capital) has a post up titled GroupMe + Skype #frc. Both are great stories from two of the seed round investors about how they met and subsequently decided to invest in GroupMe.

Congrats to everyone involved. Nicely done. And – good use of the hashtag in the title of the blog post – I wonder if that’s going to be a new meme that sticks.
